Help us remember Colleen Day
At age 10, Debra has experienced major challenges, including an organ transplant, hearing loss, traumatic death of a parent and a home invasion. Despite all this, she persevered, and her 5th grade teacher nominated her to attend the National Young Scholars Program, a one-week camp program for outstanding students. She was accepted, but her mother could only pay for half of the tuition. The Mothers Trust Foundation helped make it possible for her to attend the program with tuition paid in full.
Although Debra's story is unique, many children in Lake County would benefit from a summer camp program. Not every child needs to go to camp, but for some it can make all the difference. The sense of belonging that comes with safe group membership encourages social and emotional growth and fosters self confidence. For many, camp is the first safe and structured environment they have ever experienced outside of school. Camp provides an environment in which children can grow socially and emotionally, and return to school prepared to learn.
Colleen Day, a dear friend and founding member of The Mothers Trust Foundation, understood the importance of camp for kids. You could say it was her passion!
Please remember Colleen this year with a donation to help The Mothers Trust Foundation realize Colleen's goal of providing disadvantaged children with the opportunity to participate in enriching summer programs.
