Mothers Trust Celebrates 10 Years of Service

Mothers Trust Foundation recently celebrated ten years of helping children in need in Lake County by honoring retired founder, Barbara Monsor, and the many people who made it all possible. More than 70 people attended the event at the Gorton Center. Barbara retired in the fall of 2008, but continues to be actively involved in the work of the Foundation. She remains on the Board of Directors as Executive Director Emeritus.

Barbara spoke about members who had been instrumental in beginning the foundation and distributed special recognition awards to: Heidi Baumann, Colleen Day, Carrie Erzinger, Ginny Fagen, Susie Faucher, Theo Figliulo, Nan Goebel, Cherie Hrusovsky, Lori Julian, Colleen Muldowney and Allison Pasquesi. Also recognized were: the Garrett Family Foundation, the Church of the Holy Spirit, the First Presbyterian Church, the Judy Foundation, Dona and Dick Litzsinger, the Irene and Milton Weed Foundation and the Trustmark Foundation.

State Representative Karen May presents to Barbara Monsor

State Rep. Karen May presented Barbara with a special proclamation on behalf of State Sen. Susan Garrett, State Rep. Kathy Rig and the General Assembly of Illinois stating that "Barbara Monsor made the decision to focus her passion for children, her knowledge of social services, her faith in volunteerism and her desire to make a difference, into a single idea which became the Mothers Trust Foundation."

Award Recipients

Barbara thanked those in attendance for helping Mothers Trust Foundation strive to make a difference, one child at a time. "Tonight is really just a thank you to everyone here who worked together to make it happen," she said. She is appreciative of the community support that helped MTF grow from a small group around a kitchen table in 1998 to a foundation that has granted $1,000,000 to more than 10,000 children in Lake County in the past ten years.

Jim Baumann

Jim Baumann, MTF Board President announced the creation of a Founder's Award - an award presented annually to an outstanding member of the Mothers Trust Foundation. He also introduced the formation of the Son's Auxiliary Board, a group of men who will support the mission of MTF to honor Mothers Trust Foundation, its mission and its founder, Barbara Monsor. The dollars raised by the group will be given to the foundation in the name of the MTF Founder's Award Recipient each year.

Tremper HS serenade

The evening concluded with an appearance by the Golden Strings Orchestra of Tremper High School in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The musicians serenaded Barbara with a song called "Waves of the Danube" and received a standing ovation after an outstanding performance.
