MTF Teens Are Making a Difference!

MTF Teens hosted their third annual coat give-away for families in North Chicago School District 187 and the surrounding communities on November 13, 2010. Generous community members from Lake Forest and Lake Bluff donated more than 1,200 new and gently-used items including coats, hats, scarves, and mittens.

Approximately 800 children and adults visited the Yeager Elementary School in North Chicago to 'shop' for warm clothes. The need was overwhelming and the clothing was gone in just over an hour. The North Chicago High School Boys Basketball Team helped set up the clothing and assist the shoppers.            Friends of Mothers Trust volunteers assisted with collection, transportation and distribution of the clothes.

The Teens thank everyone for the help and support!

Teens Kick Off 2010 Spring Drive

Teens collected more than 2000 items as part of Mothers Trust Foundation 2010 Teens' Spring Drive. The focus of the drive was to collect baby and maternity items for pregnant and parenting adolescents and their families participating in the Lake County Health Department's Strong Families for Today and Tomorrow program.

The items collected include diapers, baby toys, baby clothes, maternity clothes, baby carriers, and books. This was the second year MTF has launched a drive to benefit mothers and families connected with the Health Department. However, for many years the Foundation has been working with the Health Department to respond to individual requests for assistance from families.

The Teens and many volunteers worked hard to collect and distribute these items. Thanks to everyone who made the 2010 Spring Drive possible!

Mothers Trust Foundation reached out to the younger members of our community by launching Mothers Trust Teens. The program, founded by two local teens, Madeleine Panos and Piper Ventling, is a great way for teens to get involved in helping others and to make a difference in the lives of children. The group's mission statement is: "Youth helping those in need."

The teens' goals are to identify and organize two annual service projects and to expand the group to include high school students from other Lake County communities.
